How do I shop safe online this holiday season?

It’s Holiday Season for cyber criminals too. But rather than shopping for loved ones, they’re cashing in on all the extra online traffic and going into scam-overdrive mode. Black Friday and Cyber Monday are the busiest on-line shopping days of the year and these cyber bad guys are out to get rich off your money.

So what should you be on the look out for?

  1. Any too-good-to-be-true coupons or deals. Seeing offers complimentary phones or tablets? Don’t fall for it! Make sure the offers are from a legitimate company.
  2. Email or text alerts on packages from FedEx, UPS or the US Mail. Make sure they’re legit before you click. And NEVER enter personal information if asked.
  3. Be super-wary of bulk email with crazy good BUY NOW offers and anything that looks slightly “off”
  4. Tip: Only use credit cards online, never debit cards.

And what to do if you think you’ve been scammed?

Stay calm and call your credit or debit card company. Cut up that card and wait for your new one to arrive in the mail.

Have a safe and happy holiday season!
