Trucking and Transportation
Commercial truck insurance requires agents with experience and special expertise. Government filings are required to maintain regulatory authority. Special liability limits might apply depending upon the cargo hauled. Special certificates may be required by shippers and brokers. Carriers and brokers may need contingent cargo and vicarious liability coverage. ICC and custom bonds may be required. Contracts may need to be reviewed for carriers doing business with brokers, owner operators or other carriers. Loss control and safety programs may need to be reviewed. Warehouse legal liability coverage may be required.
Loss runs, radius of operation, driver retention, type of cargo hauled, driver experience, equipment schedules and IFTA reports are common underwriting questions. Options to reduce cost and assume risk, such as basket deductibles, self-insured retentions and combined deductibles may be worthy of review.
