Bank Forward is honored to share the stories of two employee-veterans for Veterans Day. We are grateful for their service to our country and that of all veterans.

Jennifer Tostenson, Internal Auditor, serves as a soldier of the North Dakota National Guard. Jen has worked for Bank Forward since 2006 and is located at Bank Forward, Jamestown.

Jen is the Food Service Sergeant with Company A1-112 AVN out of Bismarck. She joined in 1994 at age 17 and has served for 19 ½ years. She commits to a full weekend every month and 2 weeks annual training in the summer. She was deployed for three months stateside in 2003 for Operation Iraqi Freedom. In 2009, Jen was on active duty when major flooding occurred in North Dakota.

As Food Service Sergeant, Jen is in charge of her unit’s food service operations. She is responsible for buying food and supplies and supervises the personnel who prepare meals for the 100 soldiers in her unit.

Jen is appreciative of what military service has taught her. “While in the military, you encounter numerous different personalities. From this, it has taught me how to deal with others that may not be exactly like you – people skills. I’ve also learned a great amount of leadership skills, respect, and personal courage.”

Jen, her high school sweetheart husband Dan and their two children live in Jamestown.

Andy Haskell, CFP®, is an Insurance Sales Agent for Insure Forward and a Financial Advisor for Invest Forward, located at Bank Forward, Bemidji. He spent several years working for a nationally known full service brokerage firm prior to joining Insure Forward.

Andy got his start in the military by being recruited to play hockey at West Point, where he quickly learned that service to something greater than himself was his mission.

“Serving in the Army was a great experience as it taught me the importance of discipline, hard work, and selfless service. The most rewarding experience for me was having the honor and privilege to lead American Soldiers,” notes Andy.

His first assignment in the U.S. Army was at Fort Bliss in El Paso TX, where he served as platoon leader of 35-40 soldiers. He deployed to Jordan in 2003 for Operation Iraqi Freedom. Andy conducted the reconnaissance for his battery’s missile site and led a platoon during the deployment. He met his wife Lena in Jordan where she was assigned as a transportation officer on the same base. Following his deployment, Andy served as an Aide-de-Camp for a year and then completed the Captain’s Career Course.

Andy went on to serve as a fire coordination officer for a Patriot missile brigade (about 1500 troops). After 5 years in the U.S. Army, he joined the National Guard for a year.

Andy’s wife, Lena, has deployed to Iraq twice and still serves on active duty in the Air Force at Maxwell AFB and will retire in November. Lena and their four children will join Andy in Bemidji after her retirement.

Thank you, Jen, Andy, all veterans and active duty service members for your sacrifices and service for our country!
