We had a busy Friday here at the Bank Forward Grand Forks North branch! As part of the Junior Achievement program Melanie Slominski and I volunteer for, we invited a kindergarten class of 22 kids come visit the bank.
We broke the class into 3 groups and had different “stations” for the kids to visit:
The first station was the vault. We let the kids see the coin machine, lift trays of coin, open and close the vault door, showed them the cameras and checked out the teller stations.
The second station was the board room. They loved being able to sit in the “president's chair.” Matt Follman helped out in the board room and showed them money, asked them what they would do if they got money for doing chores and talked to them about saving.
The third station got a little wild as it was visiting with Bank Forward Man. Lots of kids asked if he was real and where he slept; the imaginations of these children are endless!
One priceless comment came when two of the boys peeked into Jon Sandvik’s office. One boy whispered to the other, “Wow! Look, a real bank person!”
They also received goodie bags with chocolate coins, coloring sheets, pencils and suckers. They sang their money song they learned in school for some employees and then went back to school. It was a success (and a lot of fun) for all!
